Lara Croft: Relic Run

Lara Croft has starred in numerous video games, and now has her first foray into the endless runner genre.
Lara Croft: Relic Run is reminiscent of Temple Run right off the bat, and it also takes cues from Subway Surfers with the inclusion of three lanes. While the basics are familiar Lara Croft: Relic Run isn’t just a Lara Croft themed endless runner, and there are a surprising amount of nuances to make for a potential fresh new challenge. The endless runner genre has grown awfully stale with so many entries doing the same thing, but Lara Croft: Relic Run at least tries to change it up.

Lara Croft: Relic Run begins with the familiar swipe controls to jump, duck, and dodge, but builds upon it with wall runs, vehicle rides, and gun battles. There’s always a fresh sequence of challenges to face for each endless run, and there are also overarching goals. Your job is to recover relics by collecting a few clues to then unlock one major piece. As you collect the major pieces, you work your way up to new segments torun through as well as boss battles. As you survive in an endless run, you will reach temples in which you need to shoot enemies, as well as ATVs ready to ride for even more high speed action. Lara Croft: Relic Run presents everything at a relatively frantic pace to keep you engaged inthe action with some split second swipes required.

One of the best parts of Lara Croft: Relic Run is the camera angle that continually shifts to make each new obstacle somewhat of a surprise. The level designers have done a great job of keeping the next sequence out of view for as long as possible to keep the challenge heightened for as long as possible. Each run isn’t dramatically different, but there are some great moving obstacles to react to, as well as animations to activate with special moves. There’s a lot going for Lara Croft: Relic Run, and yet there are still theobvious limitations of the genre in that you can only replay so many times, especially if you have played many other entries in the genre. With that said, the overarching storyline of collecting relics makes ti easy to keep playing Lara Croft: Relic Run as you always have something to shoot for. The start of each run plays out relatively the same to make the opening a bit bland, but everything moves so quickly that you don’t have time to think about any repetition.
